Amynda-la
Almond
The installation commissioned by the Ajuntament de Sant Antoni, Ibiza; is a reflection about the most primary need of existence; survival; the rural and the rustic; and at the same time, the formulation of the unfathomable and metaphysical desire. The most essential abstraction that finds a place in the culture of Ibiza. The island, agriculture; the contained and the immeasurable.
It is an allegory about Amynda-la (Almond). The fruit that is born from the almond tree, whose name means “awakening” since it is the fruit tree that first blooms in the spring.
“…before the fruit there will be a delicate flower with five bright petals, white or pink, with a subtle perfume; that will live a very short time when crossed by the winds of the Santa Agnes valley; Its petals will float in the air and the flower will slowly disappear, giving rise to the growth of the almond, a fruit like a seed, with a strong, hard and resistant shell.
